CELEBRATING 59 YEARS OF FISHING, FUN AND FRIENDSHIP! ABOUT THE LOS ANGELES ROD & REEL CLUB Since 1950, LARRC members have been leaders in promoting sportfishing, conservation and environmental issues. The Los Angeles Rod & Reel Club has a long and proud history of supporting and practicing conservation with respect to our marine resources. We recognize that the future of recreational fishing is always dependent upon sound conservation measures practiced by fishermen of all kinds and scrupulously enforced by the governmental agencies charged with that responsibility. We support reasonable measures toward that end that are based on sound science. We believe that any area closures must be based upon reliable science that demonstrates the need for restrictions, that any closures should be subject to periodic review, and that any closures should be ended when the conditions requiring the closure have been corrected. Club members come together from diverse backgrounds with a common interest in local, deep sea, long range, freshwater and fly fishing. In addition to individual members, we offer family memberships, and junior memberships (under 18) for the younger anglers. During the year, LARRC sponsors limited load one-day and multi-day charters at landings from Oxnard to San Diego, with an occasional out of the country adventure. Some members also plan their own charters or trips to many exotic fishing destinations worldwide. The club also has the Los Angeles Rod & Reel Club Foundation, a non-profit charitable foundation that provides funding for various worthy causes, such as a disadvantaged kids' fishing trip (our big yearly event), mentors' fishing trips, fellowship grants and scholarships, construction of artificial reefs, marine research and studies and hatchery programs. The Louis Berke Trout Derby for special needs kids takes place in April at Hansen Dam. LARRC also sponsors two catch-and-release calico bass tournaments per year, the "King of the Calicos", and one against another fishing club. The club publishes a monthly newsletter called the "Chum Line" to keep members informed of charters, events, activities, meetings, trophy contenders, fish reports, etc. The Chum Line is available here at our website. The Board of Directors meets monthly to take care of and plan club business. A Monday night dinner meeting (normally the last Monday of every month) is held at a restaurant in Sherman Oaks off of Ventura Blvd. in the San Fernando Valley. Guest speakers are major players from all parts of the fishing industry. |
